The values of the people who work with the US president

I am beyond being surprised by the antics of Donald Trump, however I am flummoxed that the people who work for him don’t speak up, find new jobs, and otherwise distance themselves from his behaviour and comments.

A case in point: when CNN’s senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes after she asked Donald Trump to respond to a widely shared comment by Democratic senator Jon Ossoff in a speech delivered the previous Sunday. First, he dismissed her, then he allowed his communication team to post absurd comments about her on social media.

So I have to wonder:

  • Are the people who work in Donald Trump’s orbit okay with this?
  • Or are they cowards, who can’t stand up and speak truth to power?
  • And are they, in fact, the people who will have to explain their actions – or lack therefore – to the younger generations in their families (I mention this because Trump invoke Holmes’ kids – so we have to turn the question back on the people in Trump’s employ)?

Sure, there are probably many people who depend on their jobs, have no real agency, but I suspect that many are in a position to consider their values and whether Trump’s bebaviour violates what they believe, and act. So: either their values are aligned, or they are power-hungry and cowardly.
