Toolkit
As a communication specialist and climate communicator, I have invested a great of time and energy (and money!) to build a toolkit filled with workshops and simulations, facilitation methods and approaches, training courses, experiences, and communication frameworks.
Here is a sample of some of the tools and techniques I can offer. Not seeing what you’re looking for? Get in touch to chat about a custom programme. If what you need is beyond my abilities, I’ll almost certainly be able to connect you with someone else who can help you.

Celemi Sustainability
Celemi Sustainability is an extraordinary tool that uses a business simulation to help groups and organisations take a “learning by doing” approach to understanding how becoming more sustainable is good for people, planet and profit.
How I run this workshop:
- One-day standalone workshop.
- Half-day standalone workshop (for time-pressured teams – one-day is better).
- To harness the energy and ideas that come out of the workshop, I can work with you to create follow-up workshops to apply the learning to your organisation. For example, risk and opportunities workshops; ideation workshops and design sprints; horizon scanning sessions; strategic planning sessions.
- For teams with little to no carbon literacy, I often offer a Climate Fresk or Carbon Literacy training course prior to this workshop.
This workshop can be run online or on site.
Origins:
Celemi are world leaders in gamified learning and development solutions and they use their Power of Learning methodology to allow people to create their own knowledge and make learning stick. Celemi Sustainablity is their brand new simulation.

Climate Fresk
Using a pack of cards based on the latest IPCC data, I offer an interactive, game-based workshop where teams work together in small groups to co-create the story of climate change. In this half-day experience, participants will deepen their understanding of the inter-connectedness of the problem without having to read 4,000 (and counting!) pages of scientific reports. Once that’s done, we’ll take time to acknowledge feelings of frustration, anger and grief, before focusing on the good news: there are solutions to the problem, both individuals and organisations have a role to play, and together we can identify some in the workshop.
How I run this workshop:
- Half-day standalone workshop.
- To harness the energy and ideas that come out of the workshop, I can work with you to create follow-up workshops to apply the learning to your organisation. For example, risk and opportunities workshops; ideation workshops and design sprints; horizon scanning sessions; strategic planning sessions.
- If you want to explore how climate change affects your business, I recommend following a Climate Fresk workshop with a Celemi Sustainability workshop.
This workshop can be run online or on site.
Origins:
The Climate Fresk is created in 2015 by Cédric Ringenbach and is now part of the Climate Fresk Association that was founded in December 2018.

Carbon Literacy Training
Carbon literacy is “an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis” (Carbon Literacy Project). My one-day Carbon Literacy Training for Sustainable Futures course has been accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project. It focuses on Austria and can be adapted for other countries and specific sectors.
How I run this workshop:
- One-day standalone workshop – on site.
- 3 3-hour online sessions via Zoom.
- To harness the energy and ideas that come out of the workshop, I can work with you to create follow-up workshops to apply the learning to your organisation. For example, risk and opportunities workshops; ideation workshops and design sprints; horizon scanning sessions; strategic planning sessions.
- If you want to explore how climate change affects all areas of your business and what actions you can take to become more resilient, I recommend following the Carbon Literacy training with a Celemi Sustainability workshop.
This workshop can be run online or on site.
Origins:
Carbon Literacy training originated in Manchester in 2013 and is part of The Carbon Literacy Project (CLP). The CLP is globally unique – there is nothing else quite like it anywhere. It was recognised as such by the UN at COP21, in Paris, where it was awarded as a TAP100, one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs.

TetraMap®
TetraMap® is a simple but powerful framework designed to help individuals, teams and organisations become more mindful of different communication styles and transform how they communicate, collaborate, make decisions, solve problems, and plan projects or strategies. The framework is not about putting people in boxes, but rather about noticing tendencies and adapting our communication styles to make sure that we are understood in the right way. It uses the four elements of nature, Earth, Air, Water and Fire, as a metaphor to help people to understand themselves, communicate and collaborate more effectively, and harness and make the most of the diversity within their team, organisation, and the wider world.
The nature-based metaphor is understood universally, so there is no need to learn a new and daunting vocabulary. It’s visual and evokes memories from personal experiences, which makes it memorable. And because the concepts are learned during a series of interactive exercises and discussions, they “stick” and can be used immediately.
How I run this workshop:
- Half-day workshop.
- To harness the energy and ideas that come out of the workshop, I can work with you to create follow-up workshops or group sessions to support individuals on their journey to change thinking and communication behaviours.
This workshop can be run online or on site.
Origins:
TetraMap was developed in New Zealand Aotearoa by Yoshimi and Jon Brett. Combining lessons from ancient Chinese philosophy about Nature’s Elements with Buckminster Fuller’s scientific approach to ‘make the world work’, the model has a unique approach and appeal.

Circular Economy Workshops
In a linear economy, we take materials from the Earth, make products from them, and eventually throw them away as waste – we call this “cradle to grave”. In a circular economy, we aim to get the most out of raw and other materials, keep products and materials in use and design them to be cycled back into the economy, eliminating waste and cutting down on CO2 emissions.
Depending on your need, I offer a variety of workshops to help you:
- understand how the circular economy works and why it matters.
- how to build circular thinking into your organisations.
- how to embed actions in a strategic plan.
These workshops work well in combination with the Celemi Sustainability workshop.
How I run these workshops:
Each workshop is tailored to your specific needs, so length and approach will vary. Typically workshops last from one to five days and can be conducted online or on site.
Origins:
I use a variety of tools from different sources and some I have created myself. I’d be happy to share these with when we talk.

Technology of Participation: focused conversations, consensus-building, and strategic planning
I am trained in the Technology of Participation (ToP) focused conversations method (ORID), consensus-building workshop, and participatory strategic planning approach. I use these to structure effective group conversations, help groups make decisions, and provide a clear and practical framework for planning strategically for the future.
How I run these workshops:
Each workshop is tailored to your specific needs, so length and approach will vary. Typically workshops last from one to five days and can be conducted online or on site.
Origins:
ToP methods were developed by The Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA), a leader over the past five decades in promoting lasting positive change in organizations and communities around the world.

Design Sprints
Rapidly-changing times mean that organisations and teams need to innovate quickly and creatively if they want to create the products, features, services and processes that will help them thrive and grow in the face of today’s sustainability challenges. This is particularly relevant when you need to move from a linear to a circular design approach, or if you want to identify and create new products and services that will you thrive in the face of today’s sustainability challenges.
One way that I can help you accelerate innovation and the development of new ideas is by running a design sprint.
How I run design sprints:
Design sprints typically last 5 full days, and may involve pre-workshops and follow-up sessions with different groups in your organisation. These can all be delivered online or on site.
Origins:
The most well-known design sprint methodology was developed by a multi-disciplinary team working out of Google Ventures with initial iterations created by Jake Knapp.

Liberating Structures
I us Liberating Structures to foster lively participation in groups of any size, which makes my workshops full of conversation and fun, where everyone’s voice is valued and heard. Instead of controlling and constraining, I am able to give groups the freedom to think in new and interesting ways, and contribute thinking that can make your organisation identify what shifts are needed to thrive in the future.
I incorporate different strings of liberating structures into your workshop, depending on your desired outcomes.
How I use Liberating Structures:
These are simply a part of the way that I work. They inform how I facilitate and run workshops, but aren’t workshops in and of themselves.
Origins:
Liberating structures were collected by Keith McCandless and Henri Lipmanowicz and have strong roots in complexity science.

Deep Time Walk
A Deep Time Walk is a transformative journey through 4.6bn years of Earth history via a 4.6km guided walk. It is an invitation to view the world differently and we use it to get people out of the office, into nature, and into a dialogue about the role of humans in today’s environmental and climate-related disruption.
This facilitated walk tells the Earth’s story, as we know it as present, and allows ideas and discussions to emerge throughout. It’s a great way to kick-start office-based and more structured thinking around sustainability, risks and opportunities, and what your organisation needs to do in order to shift towards a future that is thriving AND sustainable.
How I run Deep Time Walks:
The Deep Time Walk is a half-day experience and it can take place anywhere as long as we are outdoors.
Origins:
The Deep Time Walk emerged from the amalgamation of two projects: The Walk Through Time, created in California in 1997 and the Deep Time Walk created at Schumacher College, and it is a powerful experience that encourages “thinking differently”.

Climate Solutions & Policy
The En-ROADS Climate Workshop is an interactive experience which helps build support for strategies to address climate change through the use of the En-ROADS Climate Simulator.
This experiential workshop is hopeful, scientifically-grounded, action-oriented, and eye-opening. It works best when participants have some initial understanding of climate change, and we recommend preceding this workshop with our Climate Fresk or Climate Competence offerings.
This workshop takes 90 minutes online, and can also be delivered on-side as a 2-hour interactive session.
Learn more
The workshop has been run for the U.S. Congress, Statnet in Norway, a community group in Atlanta, the Energy Transition Forum in London, HSBC bank, the U.S. Climate Action Network, the UN Secretary-General’s Office, and many others. Participants at GreenBiz 2020 rated it the best session of the conference (learn more about En-ROADS use in the business sector).
Co-developed with the MIT Sustainability Initiative, the workshop is set up as an interactive group learning experience that promotes greater understanding of the causes of climate change and the solutions essential to mitigating it. It is framed by the En-ROADS simulator, which allows participants to explore and rapidly assess the impacts of different solutions to climate change—like energy supply subsidies, energy efficiency, or land use changes. The workshop is designed to be run by anyone dedicated enough to learn its facilitation, and can be run both in-person and online.
